Dr. Erin Banks

Erin is the Assistant Dean, Office of Undergraduate Research at UNC Charlotte. Her goal is to expand opportunities and promote academic success for undergraduate students through innovation, mentored scholarship, creative expression, and entrepreneurship. She is the former Director of the $5.7 million NIH Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity (IMSD) program and the ARRA supplement for students in the biomedical and behavioral sciences at North Carolina State University. She served as the director of the IMSD program at NC State for ten years.

Dr. Banks has experience recruiting, mentoring and training graduate and undergraduate students and has been engaged in various student success initiatives and research training programs.  Dr. Banks has facilitated professional development seminars/workshops, research training workshops, and is a member of the Mid Atlantic Prep/IMSD Research Training Consortium that brings together faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students, and program administrators in the Southeast.  ​​

In addition, Dr. Banks has experience working with research programs such as the U.S. Department of Education Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN Program) and the Florida A&M University Graduate Feeder Program in an effort to increase the number of minority students enrolling and graduating with graduate-level degrees. Dr. Banks also has experience in program evaluation and research involving health disparities and psychosocial issues that impact student success. She is an adjunct faculty member in the psychology at NC State University and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at UNC Charlotte.
