Niners Mentor Collective

The Niners Mentor Collective is an exciting new mentoring program for UNC Charlotte students who are experiencing college for the first time.  Students will be carefully paired with mentors who are there to offer guidance as students acclimate to life in college.  Mentors will assist mentees in navigating the many adjustments that students often face when attending college for the first time.  Areas of support include:

  • Deciding on a major
  • Accessing campus support services
  • The purpose and benefits of utilizing a professor’s office hours
  • Finding meaningful social outlets
  • How to best manage one’s time
  • Maximizing your college experience so that you develop both academically and socially

In this initial kickoff year, slots are limited to 200 mentees.  Students were matched on a first come, first served basis.  Below are comments from program particpants:

I was concerned about what majors would be best suited to guide me towards the jobs I may want and she suggested to watch "A Day in the Life of" videos on youtube to find out what actually goes on in jobs I may want. - Niners Mentor Collective Mentee

My mentor helped me find] ways to get involved on campus. - Niners Mentor Collective Mentee

My mentee seems worried about the transition between high school to college. I've been able to reassure him that college is a good time so long as you manage time and keep up with school work. - Niners Mentor Collective Mentor

I was able to relate with a lot of the concerns my mentee had regarding the different experience that college is as a veteran. I feel that he's more confident and reassured that he'll be able to succeed. - Niners Mentor Collective Mentor
